Position Description The Dental Bus Driver runs the mobile dental unit, completes setup of the unit at service locations, maintains the unit on an ongoing basis, and supports the mobile dental team by assisting patients in accessing the unit.
This position reports to the Project Administrator.
Our standard hours are Monday- Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm.
Responsibilities Mobile Dental Driver Drives the mobile dental unit (38’ in length with a similar profile to a recreational vehicle) to and from service locations including the safe piloting and parking of the unit in various physical environments.
Adheres to posted speed limits and all State of Michigan traffic laws as well as Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) procedures and training.
Follows all vehicle safety protocols making patient and staff safety a priority when operating/using this vehicle.
Unit Setup/Storage Parks/places the mobile dental unit at service locations, allowing space to safely extend the slide out.
Ensures patient access to the unit by marking and clearing entry/egress routes.
Prepares the unit for mobile operations including (but not limited to) leveling and stabilizing the unit, ensuring electrical power and properly functioning waste systems, unpacking/releasing equipment and supplies stored during travel etc.
Re-packs the unit and prepares it for travel to overnight (or longer term) storage emptying waste, re-fueling, securing within storage facilities etc.
Unit Functions and Maintenance Responsible for operating all mechanical systems including (but not limited to) the unit’s levelers/stabilizers, generator, electrical hookups, waste system and holding tanks, dental suction equipment etc.
Follows procedure manual to winterize and store the bus each fall, and open and prepare for use each spring.
Ensures all operating and basic maintenance procedures for the unit including (but not limited to) checking and filling fluids, re-fueling, checking, and maintaining tire pressure are completed.
Coordinates in collaboration with the Honor Community Health Building Manager, the preventive maintenance schedule of Mobile Dental unit (oil changes, generator service, general RV maintenance etc.
) as well as securing service/repairs for any malfunctions/breakdowns.
Works with the Building Manager to obtain price quotes and receive approval for all maintenance/repairs prior to scheduling these services.
Maintains cleanliness and professional appearance of vehicles inside and out.
Completes vehicle maintenance logs and provides vehicle operation and maintenance reports to supervisor.
Patient Access Receives intake paperwork from all patients, ensuring completion prior to the receipt of services.
Completes check in and registration in the next gen system including verification of insurance.
Assist patients in navigating to and entering the mobile unit (including operating the wheelchair lift) from service location buildings and parking areas.
When possible, contacts mobile dental patients within 24-48 hours prior to their scheduled service to confirm their appointment.
Assists the sealant team with the contact of partnering agencies (service locations) to confirm time, date, and logistical details of mobile dental services prior to arrival.
Arrives at all service locations 30-45 min prior to scheduled appointments to ensure vehicle readiness.
General Maintains a helpful and courteous attitude when interacting with consumers, visitors, and agency personnel.
Maintains patient confidentiality by limiting vehicle access to scheduled patients only.
Additional Responsibilities During a public health emergency, the employee may be required to perform duties like but not limited to those in the job description.
What are we looking for? High school diploma or equivalent is required.
1 year of transportation experience with Coach, Bus, or Recreational Vehicle.
Must have a valid Michigan driver’s license and CDL with a clean driving record.
Must have basic computer skills.
No more than one moving violation within the past twelve months.
No operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated or impaired by consumption due to alcohol or illegal drugs within the past 8 years.
No suspended, revoked, or expired license within the past five years.
No more than 3 points on current driving record.
