Our mission is to make a transformative change in the Michigan Foster Care system and a measurable and meaningful impact in the lives of youth who have experienced foster care.
We accomplish this by partnering with the State and local agencies to develop, fund, and implement innovative pilot programs; researching and advancing policy and legislative action in the best interests of Michigan’s children; and providing direct service programs that change the trajectory of youth with experience in foster care.
TNFC’s main transition service program, The Bridge, serves youth and emerging adults (ages 14 to 29), assisting them to achieve greater self-sufficiency and attain their goals along five life transition domains (Employment & Career, Living Situation, Educational Opportunity, Community Life Functioning, Personal Effectiveness & Wellbeing).
The program model utilizes a treatment team approach, with a Transition Navigator, Personal Wellness Coach, Peer Support Specialist, and Attorney (as needed) all assigned to assist the client on their journey.
*Job Summary*: The Director of Legal Services (DLS) is responsible for ensuring the successful day-to-day operation of TNFC‘s legal service division, delivery of quality services to clients, and development/expansion of programming to meet the needs of the population served.
The ideal candidate for this role will have proven experience developing, implementing, and growing a program across counties and defining program goals and outcomes.
The DLS leads, trains, manages and supports legal personnel who provide direct client representation and serves as lead counsel or co-counsel in major litigation.
The DLS develops, maintains, and disseminates legal information and trainings to provide support to legal team members and other community partners.
The DLS works closely with and reports to the Exectuvie Director.
The DLS also provides public policy analysis and testimony as needed and provides education to applicable state departments, the state legislature and other entities involved with the child protection system.
*Minimum Qualifications:* _Education and Experience_ · Juris Doctorate degree from accredited law school.
· Active Michigan law license.
· A minimum of ten years experience handling child protection cases.
· Strong preference for applicants with experience in the following areas of law: Family, Landlord Tenant, Credit Defense, Minor Criminal/Civil Offenses, Juvenile Delinquency, Disability Rights, and Education.
_Competencies_ · Ability to relate to youth and emerging adults with trauma associated with their experience in foster care and/or their families of origin.
§ Ability to provide culturally competent services that show sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
§ Ability to interact and communicate both verbally and in writing with youth and emerging adults with serious emotional disturbances, parents, foster parents, caregivers, schools, other staff, physicians, county agencies, other health care and social services providers and the public.
§ Ability to perform, and acknowledgement of importance of, clear and concise documentation.
§ Ability to work well in stressful situations.
§ Ability to work creatively and effectively in a fast paced, enthusiastic, and team-oriented workplace.
§ Ability to work a flexible schedule that allows for support to clients during non-typical business hours, if needed.
§ Ability to lead others to achieve goals and outcomes and manage multiple initiatives at one time.
§ Demonstrated leadership, organization, and management skills.

*Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * · Assist in the development of a multi-disciplinary legal model to serve youth with lived experience in foster care to transition to successful, resilient adults.
· Assist in establishing program benchmarks and outcome measurements.
· Develop program processes and procedures and standards of reporting and accountability.
· Develops and implements innovative methods that maximize the strength of agency resources and successfully addresses agency mission and goals.
· Provides quality assurance monitoring of legal programs.
· Day-to-day leadership and oversight of the agency’s legal work and legal team members.
· Participates in regular case reviews with all attorneys.
· Engages in legal work on behalf of clients and the agency.
· Conducts annual job performance reviews and assists with the development of professional development plans with team members.
· Assists with planning staff development activities and participates in professional development.
· Reviews and responds to complaints regarding intake and case services.
· Reviews timesheets and expense reports of legal team members.
· Participates in local, state, and national councils, boards, committees, etc.
to address identified program issues and concerns.
· Cultivates and maintains collaborative working relationships with other attorneys, agencies, and organizations in the child protection field.
· Participates in projects that address systemic issues which fall under program areas of work.
· Provides public policy analysis and testimony as needed and provides education to applicable state departments, the state legislature, and other entities involved with the child protection system.
· Assist communications staff as needed to develop content for newsletter articles, social media, annual reports, and other publications as well as live recorded video and audio content.
· Performs related tasks consistent with skills and abilities and general responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director.
*Additional Work Requirements-* · Valid unrestricted driver's license, with proof of current registration and automobile insurance; reliable personal transportation suitable for safely transporting program participants required.
Job Type: Full-time Pay: $75,000.
00 - $90,000.
