Objective:
The successful candidate is responsible to manage the maintenance and repair governance of the rental fleet.
Responsibilities include prioritizing, tracking, and monitoring the maintenance, repairs and preventative maintenance that make up the Heavy Equipment Rental Fleet.
Working in conjunction with all Service Teams across the state, you will develop and maintain reporting and metrics that speak to branch store and rental fleet performance while collaborate with store managers to drive performance improvement and control costs.
The successful candidate will work directly with the HE Rental Manager to ensure the rental department plans and procedures are implemented, help with identifying and developing the standard fleet configuration and reporting on the total maintenance spend and return to ready cycle times.
Responsibilities: Develops work processes and procedures for all shops regarding the maintenance and repair of Michigan CAT owned fleets for the future intent of the machines purpose; sale, rental or rental rollout.
Establish and maintain reporting metrics to measure the shop and return to ready process and maintenance and repair costs.
Review and monitor the opening and closing of work orders against inventories to ensure necessary repairs are done accurately and efficiently for the rental operations fleet.
Prepare & submit monthly reporting regarding repairs and upgrades to equipment that should be capitalized to the machine.
Assist shops and service managers by providing direction for repairs or maintenance of fleets.
Single point of contact to assist with prioritizing, scope of work, and questions that may arise.
Review, monitor, and assist with warranty.
Working closely with CAT district reps, management, and Michigan CAT warranty department to insure warranty is accurate as well as any areas of process improvements.
Assist Rental Coordinators with technical recommendations on rental machines and attachments.
Monitors and assist Rental Coordinators with any customer rental damages that need to be billed back.
Assist Rental Manager with developing and maintaining owning and operating hourly costs in respect to maintenance and repairs required of the rental fleet.
Works with rental department on new Caterpillar initiatives in respect to machine technology and their offerings, i.
e.
Vision Link, GPS, etc.
Develop working reports provided by the information gathered through Vision Link to monitor machine health in-order to be pro-active on necessary maintenance to the equipment prior to having unnecessary costly repairs.
Recommends and provides extended warranty quotes to management on rental fleet.
Will monitor rental fleet on Vision Link and along with Heavy Rental Manager develop "Value Props" for machine utilization and health.
Will utilize telematics to develop a Tier 4 "re-gen" strategy to assure costly maintenance and repairs are avoided due to lack of equipment maintenance.
Develops an excellent working relationship with Caterpillar and their field representatives, Sales, Product Support and Product Development as it pertains to the development, marketing and delivery of service products in support of MFC's overall goals.
Works with direct report to create the vision of the department and a plan of implementation.
Monitor & change machine configurations for the rental fleet.
Work with Michigan CAT yard personal to ensure proper shipping and receiving procedures are followed.
Develop / Maintain relationships with 3rd party vendors who you must schedule to perform certain 24/7 service work as called upon.

OCCASIONAL/OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: On call may be require in facilitating afterhours breakdown repair of equipment.
Performs Yard audits Assists Rental Fleet Dispatcher in resolving transportation related issues and complaints Occasional Customer and Job site visits Infrequent overnight travel may occur when scheduling periodic meetings with various Michigan CAT locations.
(Less than 5%) REQUIRED: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma Five years’ experience in a shop operations role and a strong understanding of the shop operations environment.
Strong Project Management skills with the ability to lead projects that establish brand new company processes.
Excellent mechanical aptitude.
Excellent verbal communication and listening skills and strong written communication, presentation and non-verbal skills.
Strong leadership skills, including creative thinking, decision-making, planning and goal setting skills.
Strong management skills, including change, conflict, performance and project management skills.
Strong interpersonal skills, including influence, negotiation, coaching and counseling.
Strong customer service skills Strong analytical skills, including problem solving and the ability to interpret policies, procedures, guidelines and laws.
A thorough knowledge of the product with a strong respect for the Caterpillar influence and a good knowledge of the product market.
Good computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Power Point, data base systems and the ability to operate CAT PC and Main Frame Programs.
A team player with the ability to uphold professionalism and work with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance and friendly, courteous treatment of peers, subordinates and customers.
PREFERRED: Bachelor's degree in related field Six or more years of equipment fleet management Experience in a Caterpillar equipment shop preferred Six Sigma training (Green Belt / Black Belt) Mechanical aptitude and the ability to discuss components and capabilities with customers.
Solid understanding of warranty processes and procedures.
