SUMMARY: Under general supervision, assists in any area of food preparation in the school kitchen.
The Cook is to assist the Manager in any area of food preparation, assume responsibility for operation of the cafeteria in the absence of the Manager, assist in maintaining the kitchen in a sanitary and orderly condition, and does related work as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepares baked goods, meat dishes and other foods required in accordance with kitchen procedures Serves on the production line, the serving line or as the cashier as directed Assists in setting up and the display of the serving line for food service Assists in cleaning and storing equipment and food supplies as directed by the Manager Washes pots, pans, trays, utensils, and other kitchen equipment and cleans the kitchen areas as directed Assumes charge of the lunch room and kitchen in the absence of the Manager Responsible for maintaining health, safety, and sanitation standards for staff, students, and equipment at all times Responsible for understanding the basic principles by which the School Breakfast and Lunch Programs are operated and keeps up to date on School Nutrition regulations and codes Responsible to ensure that meals are ready to serve at the time(s) set by the building administrator Promotes student and staff satisfaction by merchandising and serving meals in an attractive manner and promoting nutrition education and other school food service activities Responsible to maintain a professional and courteous manner with fellow employees, building staff and students Performs other job related duties as assigned Other Responsibilities: Maintains consistent, predictable and physical attendance to meet the requirements of the position Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED Basic understanding and knowledge of current technology Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with students Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be physically present, regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk and hear The employee is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust, focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen and small numbers Supervisory Responsibilities: None Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals Ability to write routine reports Computer Skills: Ability to perform basic computer skills, email, calendars, work orders and basic office programs Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract and multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions Ability to solve problems in a professional manner The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
